How To Get Your Real Estate License… FAST!

What if I told you that you could get your real estate license FAST, like... NASCAR fast!

Would that get you excited?

Well then, today is going to be great because I am going to walk you through the licensing process, tell you what to do, and (hopefully) cut your process down to a few short months or less.

Getting your real estate license can be a process that takes quite a few months to complete. From following your state requirements, completing the coursework, and taking the final exams, the process can take some time.

Don’t worry, there are a few shortcuts I want to show you today that can help cut that time down.

Step 1: Understanding the Course Requirements

Educational requirements can vary greatly from one state to the next. In some states the required coursework to qualify to sit for the real estate examination is extensive. Some may even require a college degree; however, this is not the norm. Most states have a prerequisite number of hours of specified coursework that must be completed at an approved, accredited real estate school.

How do you find out all the requirements of your state?

Many people waste a lot of time trying to find and understand all these requirements, so I did the work for you. You can find a link to my recommended online schools which will help you follow your state’s licensing requirements here.

How great is that?

Told you I had shortcuts for you :)

Step 2: Real Estate Licensing School

Where you get your real estate education will also affect how long it takes to get your real estate license.

But the most important decision you will have to make is whether to take your coursework in class or online.

More than anything, this is a personal learning decision. Most people opt for taking their courses online instead of in class for two reasons…

First, depending on your state and the number of hours offered per week, you can complete your educational requirements in class within 3-4 months. For most people, 3-4 months is far too much time just to get licensed!

Second, what you learn in the pre-licensing coursework will not teach you how to make money in the business. You will only learn the legality, paperwork, common practices, etc. The coursework is not designed to teach you how to gain clients and grow a real business. So don’t spend any more time getting your license than is absolutely necessary.

In many cases, online real estate school can decrease the pre-licensing timeframe from a few months to a few weeks. An accredited online real estate school will allow you to study at your own pace, whenever and wherever you choose. Coursework can likely be completed in significantly less time for motivated individuals. (And since you’re looking at getting into real estate, I’m going to assume you’re pretty motivated.)

Everything you really need to learn about making money in real estate will be learned AFTER you get your license and join Keller Williams. Remember, KW has been voted into the Training and Education Hall of Fame for ranking as the #1 training organization across all industries for many years. So, do yourself a favor and if your state allows it, take your courses online and let us help you with the rest.

So where can you find these accredited online licensing schools?

The best first place to start looking is on my page here. You will see my recommend online real estate schools.

Step 3: Real Estate Licensing Application and Exam Process

After completing your required courses, you will schedule a time to take your final licensing exam. The application and exam process can also vary, adding anywhere from a few days to several weeks to the time it takes to get a license.

Your exam will be broken into two parts, a state, and a national portion. Typically the national is easier to pass on the first try. I would make sure to purchase an exam study guide from the online real estate school you take and spend time studying the prep questions they give you.

Most states have automated the process of submitting your license application and taking your real estate exam. Some states will even provide you with test results and a temporary license at the test site.

Unfortunately, this process can take some time as it is up to your state’s process for administering your final exam and approving your license. The best advice I have here for shortcutting your exam process is to take practice exams! These will really help you in confidently passing and obtaining your new real estate license.

Final Steps:

It’s up to you when it comes to getting your licensing completed. You can do it FAST or you can do it slowly. The reality is the faster you get past the licensing part, the faster you can start your new career with unlimited opportunities. Again, the licensing process does not teach you how to MAKE money as an agent.

The great news is that is where we come in! Our job is to help you through the licensing process and jumpstart your career by connecting you with a local Keller Williams office and jumping into training!
